Tom was born and raised in Fairmont, WV where he spent most of his time inside his father's machine shop. He eventually learned how to operate every machine, signaling a promising future in the auto repair industry. After mastering crank grinding and balancing, he quickly added fuel injector repairs and boring to his auto service skill set. Tom graduated from Fairmont Senior HS in 1970, and then went on to Northwood University where he earned an AAS in Automotive Marketing Management and a BAAS in Business Management. He was Detroit Diesel-trained and certified in 71 and 53 series diesel engines as part of his diesel repair training and expertise. After college, Tom was hired by Hastings Manufacturing as a product engineer, and then went on to become the General Manager of the Tool and Accessory Division. Tom has always had an interest in vehicle repair, so he went onto successful careers with local Grand Rapids dealerships. As General Manager, he built lifelong relationships with his customers and employees which sharpened his skills as a business leader.
Marcia was born and raised in Rockford MI, graduating from Rockford HS in 1983. Right away, Marcia went to work in both the insurance and automotive industries, where she would eventually meet Tom. They met in 1987 and were married in 1991. Together, they owned and operated a small auto repair company, before selling it in 2005 and starting what is known today as Grand Rapids Motorcar. The business moved to its present location in the summer of 2013. Marcia and Tom are happy to be part of the Grand Rapids South East community, and spend any time away from the shop working on their home in Cascade. They also enjoy traveling to Chicago and spending time with their 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 dogs.
Kathy was born in Witchita Kansas and moved to Belmont Michigan when she was very young. She, like Marcia, also graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford MI. Kathy spent a majority of her career in the medical and management fields before joining Grand Rapids Motorcar in 2013. Everywhere Kathy has worked, she has been a valuable asset and has become the same as Office Manager. Kathy enjoys gardening and spending time with her family here in Michigan. She has twins; a son that is active in baseball and a daughter active in horseback riding.
Rob is an ASE and State of Michigan certified technician who’s been in the Auto Repair industry for 20 years. Born and raised in Southern California until age 14, he spent his high school years in Pennsylvania. After graduating from Bishop Egan High School in 1993, he moved to West Michigan and enrolled at GRCC Tech Center. After receiving Auto Repair training and licensing, he started changing oil and working his way up in local car dealerships. Rob continued to earn certifications and build his career. He came to work for Tom and GRMC in 2007 as an Auto Technician, and was offered the Service Manager position a few months later. Married to his best friend Becky, they have four sons and live in Grandville Mi. Outside the shop, Rob enjoys spending time with his family, working on house projects and watching his sons play club Soccer.
Sam is an ASE and State of Michigan certified technician who’s been in the automotive industry for 18 years. He was raised in Peoria AZ, where he started working on cars at a very young age in his father's shop. After graduating from Peoria High school in 1998, Sam took his 4 years of Automotive training to an apprenticeship with an independent repair shop where he sharpened his skills. In 2000, Sam and his loving wife Kimberly moved to MI. He came to work for GRMC in 2008, and has become our shop foreman and lead diagnostic tech. Sam enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children when he is not working. He also enjoys spending time with his congregation, taking part in spiritual activities.
Dan is an ASE and State of Michigan certified technician. He graduated from Union High school in 2003 ( Grand Rapids MI ) and also did his auto tech training at Kent Career Tech Center. With 15 years of auto repair experience, he came to work for GRMC in December of 2009. Dan is not only our BMW guru, but has also become a top notch diagnostic tech. Besides being an auto repair genius he is also an undercover computer genius and builds his own computers in his free time. He enjoys spending time with his two children, camping, is a certified gym rat.
Scott is an ASE and State of Michigan certified technician, with 28 years experience in the auto repair industry. He grew up in Frankenmuth MI, and graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1987. After graduation, he went to work right away in a GM dealership. In 2005, Scott and his wife of 13 years Cathy moved to West Michigan and Scott began working for another GM dealer. In 2009, Scott came to work at GRMC and is our Domestic repair expert. Scott is also our on staff boat repair, jet ski repair, snowmobile repair, motorcycle repair, classic car repair, fabricator and interior repair professional. During his time off Scott enjoys snowmobiling, fishing, camping and traveling.
Royce is our most seasoned Technician with over 40 years experience. Royce graduated from Grandville High School in 1971 and began his auto repair career at a full service gas station in 1974. Royce moved into a Honda dealership early on and has 34 years of Honda experience. Needless to say, if we have an Asian import he is getting the repair. Royce has been married 41 years to his wife Dawn, and they have 3 sons and 9 grandchildren. Royce spends his time off enjoying his 9 grandchildren and traveling.
